Tiruchirapalli, also called Trichy, is the administrative headquarter of the Tiruchirapalli District. With a population of 1 million and it is the fourth biggest city of Tamil Nadu. Trichy has a number of historical places with Hindu temples, churches, mosques, and fortresses. Most famous is the Rockfort temple, on a massive rock, and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is the biggest one in India and it is one of the most renowned religious place in the world. These sites make Trichy an attractive city for tourists. The town is situated at the bank of River Cauvery. Trichy is called as the seat of education.
